Civil War Comes To Avoncroft Museum

For Father’s Day, Avoncroft is welcoming the English Civil War Society to take visitors back in time as King Charles' army is moving closer to Bromsgrove. Throughout Worcestershire, the local militia is being raised to block his path. Skirmishes, living history camps and displays of weaponry each day. 10:30am – 5pm
Living History Display
Your opportunity to talk to our experienced historical interpreters about life in the 17th Century. Many have museum quality reproduction artefacts that bring their skills to life and amongst them you may find some of the foremost authorities on their subjects.
Typically a civilian Living History will feature spinning, making and decorating clothing, bodging (the making of wooden components for furniture etc.) making of writing implements such as pens and pencils, tent making, preparation and serving of fine foods and a number of representations of complete rooms of the period, as well as individual artisans at work such as the Scribe.
Drill Display
The forces gather to practise their skills at arms and to drill the blocks of soldiers in battlefield manoeuvres. Moving large blocks of soldiers, cavalry and cannons about a battlefield is a practised skill observe how the Officers communicate instructions to the field commanders and how they then instruct their bodies of men to move into place and make advances on the opposing Army.
